The Flanged Serrated Self-Locking Hex Nut is an all metal nut with a serrated face that resists self-loosening.
The Flanged Serrated Nut is specially designed to reduce the bearing stress on the joint; and eliminates the need for a washer. The bearing stress is the result of tightening the nut. This can be of importance especially when tightening onto aluminium or mild steel using a high strength bolt. If the bearing stress is too high, the clamp force can decrease because of plastic deformation under the nut face. That is, the bolt can come loose without the nut and/or bolt rotating. The Flanged Serrated Nut can prevent such plastic deformation and the serrations on the face on the nut resists self-loosening.
The Flanged Serrated Nut is free spinning, but once fully tightened it resists self-loosening by the serrations embedding into the surface of the joint.
The all metal Flanged Nut means that the nut can be used at elevated temperatures (up to 300 degrees), and is not affected by oil.
The property class of the Flanged Serrated Nut is 10, so it is suitable for use with high tensile bolts of property class 10.9 and below (10.9, 8.8, 6.8, 5.8, 5.6, 4.8, 3.6 bolts.
The finish on the Flanged Serrated Nut is Geomet-Zinc-Flake.
The Flanged Serrated Nut meets the requirements of the BS EN ISO 2320-2008 standard (prevailing torque type steel hex nuts, mechanical and performance requirements).
The Flanged Serrated Nut can be re-used and still maintain a locking action of the nut. To achieve the full locking action of the nut, it is recommended that at least two bolt threads should protrude through the top of the nut.
